I also enjoyed Rod’s humour, which was sometimes a little corny like my dad’s. Book is new, still in shrink wrap. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.
I say “seems” because I was only able to get through the first and last lilot. It’s pretty steep for beginners and should be used more as a referance.

Using analogies, memory aids, clear and detailed graphics and a little humor, Rod reduces the complexity of all aviation subjects aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation, airspace, etc. Where I expected a professional but human approach to teaching the subject, what I found was piles and piles of senseless and unnecessary jokes that derailed my orivate process while I tried to focus.
I ended up trying to read with a black sharpie in hand, crossing out the dribble.

It was painful trying to sift through and keep the jokes and useful data separate. This book seems to contain a lot of useful and accurate information. Reading the material then listening to the material and finally working through the questions in the workbook almost guarantees retention. Now that I have this book, I may get the CD to use in the car on my daily commute.
But, hey, I get it on my iPhone and can read it between my busy schedule on the go and highlight the stuff in my hardcopy later at home. Rod Machado is a pilot and author of aviation flight training materials. He is ATPL rated, and a member of the Aviation Speakers Bureau.
Biography[edit]
Rod Machado was born in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1953. He began flying at 16 after selling his motorcycle, and did his first solo flight at 17. He subsequently became a flight instructor, and earned all the ratings up to ATP, including private pilot certificate, instrument rating, and Commercial Pilot Certificate, as well as several type ratings.[1] Machado currently flies a Cessna 150.[2]
Machado is also an eager runner as well as holding black belts in both the disciplines of Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido as also having trained over a decade in the Brazilian-based Gracie Jujitsu. Due in part to his martial arts interest and speaking experience, he was featured as an analyst at the first Ultimate Fighting Championship, held in Denver, Colorado in 1993.
